Yang Hyung-seok, those were the days, the movies we loved
Remember the movie that made you who you are today, directed by Seung-Wan Ryu?
At the 44th Cheongryong Film Awards ceremony held on the 24th, director Ryu Seung-wan’s film <Smuggling>won five awards, including Best Film, Best Supporting Actor (Jo In-sung), Best New Actress (Go Go-si), Best Music (Jang Jang-ha), and Best Popular Star (Jo In-sung).
Ryu Seung-wan, who won the Grand Prize for Best Film at the Baeksang Arts Awards last year for <Mogadishu>, won the Best Picture award for <Smuggling>this year, establishing himself as one of the most recognized directors of Korean cinema.
<“Korean cinema is in crisis these days, but seeing that <Smuggling>won the Cheongryong Best Picture Award, I think it’s true,” said Cho Sung-min, vice president of the film company that produced Smuggling>.
However, the mass-oriented but not lighthearted film <Smuggling>was a box office success with 5.14 million viewers, and the actors’ unselfish performances stood out (according to the Integrated Movie Ticketing System).
This means that the movie was more than enough to win the Blue Dragon Award for Best Picture.
